Video: Khabib Nurmagomedov’s UFC 254 Win Reaches Russia – Fans Go Wild in Celebration

Khabib Nurmagomedov has helped put Dagestan on the map. The UFC lightweight champion is arguably the biggest star to have come out of the region, inspiring the youth of the region.

This weekend, Khabib Nurmagomedov defended his lightweight title to secure a historic 29-0 career at the highest level. By beating Justin Gaethje, Khabib not only became the greatest lightweight in the history of the UFC but also topped the UFC pound-for-pound rankings.

UFC 254 was one of the most anticipated events of the year. Fans around the world got ready to watch two of the most dangerous men on the planet go head to head.

With the event in the books, videos have been popping up online showing fans celebrating Khabib’s win in large groups.

A video was released showcasing hundreds of Nurmagomedov fans watching a screening of the fight. The cold night seemingly did not hinder the energy of the Dagestani fans, with the crowd eagerly awaiting to watch their champion.

‘The Eagle’ secured a second-round submission win over Gaethje to the delight of the fans around the world. However, the victory celebration showcased by the Dagestani fans exemplified how they see their idol.

Nurmagomedov has become a massive superstar not only in Dagestan but also to the large Muslim population around the world. 

‘The Eagle’ explained in his post-fight interview that he promised his mother his fight with Gaethje would be his last. Khabib also cited the passing away of his father and coach Abdulmanap as the reason.

“This was my last fight,” Khabib told UFC commentator Jon Anik in his post-fight interview.

Will we see Khabib Nurmagomedov in the UFC octagon again?

“I promised [my mother], it’s going to be my last fight,” Khabib Nurmagomedov said. “It was my last fight here. Tuesday, you guys have to put me No. 1 pound-for-pound because I deserve this.”

Nurmagomedov is a man of his word. ‘The Eagle’ has always been a straight shooter and often speaks his mind. The tragic passing away of Khabib’s father led all to wonder if Khabib’s performance would be impacted.
