WATCH: Lyman Good Gets Emotional Over Father’s Death Ahead Of UFC Fight

UFC on ESPN 11 is set to witness a Welterweight clash between Lyman Good and Belal Muhammad. The two fighters will square off in the UFC’s consecutive return to the Apex facility. Although the fight doesn’t have title implications, it offers an exciting match-up for the main card. Not to mention, both fighters have an opportunity to extend their win streaks at Welterweight.

Belal Muhammad is coming off the back on two straight victories. The Roufus sport fighter has been a staple of the UFC roster and hopes to finally make a run into the title picture.

Lyman Good has gone 1-1 in his last two fights and previously competed back in November 2019. Good’s style is very similar to his opponent, offering solid forward pressure and variation in strikes. Lyman Good spoke to the Media at a virtual scrum to preview his fight with Muhammad.

A fight between the two was slated for an earlier day. However, Lyman Good contracted the coronavirus and stepped down from the bout. He was on the first MMA fighters to publically announce contracting the virus. He explained that he wanted to use his platform and spread awareness of the disease.

Lyman Good speaks out on his father’s death

Speaking to reporters, Lyman Good got emotional while mentioning his father, who passed away very recently. Good was holding back tears as he explained his motivation for staying on the card. He went on to clarify that his father passed away due to reasons unrelated to the virus.

“It’s definitely been a long road. A few weeks ago my father had passed away, so it’s been a rollercoaster ride physically and emotionally. For me, one of the main things we’re training as martial artists is on maintaining integrity of your focus. Stay the path and stay the course, you’re going to feel a lot better knowing you stuck to your path.

“There was a lot going through my head at the time. For me to not fight would be an injustice to his honor and to his name. If anything I needed to use this as an opportunity to go out there. It’s literally a day before Father’s day [cries]. I said to myself let’s go out there and let’s do it for him.”
