Before UFC Fight Night 175, middleweights Marvin Vettori and Karl Roberson engaged in a heated war of words.

Recently, news broke out that Karl Roberson, who is 4-2 in the UFC, fell ill overnight due to weight cutting related issues. He was subsequently taken to the hospital and deemed unfit to compete. Hence, his fight with Vettori was canceled.

At the weigh-ins, Roberson came in at 187.5 lbs. A statement made by ESPN confirmed the withdrawal.

“Due to medical issues unrelated to COVID-19 after his weight cut, Karl Roberson has been pulled from his Wednesday bout with Marvin Vettori at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville,” the statement read. “The UFC Fight Night card, headlined by the bout between Anthony Smith and Glover Teixeira, will proceed as scheduled with 10 bouts.”

According to the doctors, Roberson’s issues were not of a serious nature. And this might have angered his opponent.

Marvin Vettori calls out Karl Roberson

While Roberson and his team were checking out of the hotel, Vettori approached them and started yelling expletives. According to MMA Junkie, this wasn’t their first run-in.

Nutritionist Matteo Capodaglio posted footage which shows Vettori being restrained by security. He was also heard calling out Roberson for a fight.

Since his loss to Israel Adesanya in 2018, Vettori has accumulated two back to back wins. He defeated his last 2 opponents via unanimous decisions. Prior to this event, he was scheduled to fight in London. However, that fight fell apart because of the Coronavirus pandemic. The Italian hasn’t fought since October 2019.

On the other hand, the 29-year-old Roberson is also on a streak of his own. He defeated Wellington Turman via a split decision. And then submitted Roman Kopylov through submission at UFC Fight Night: Magomedsharipov vs Kattar.
