In what was rather surprising to hear after the loss to Andeson Silva, Chael Sonnen believed that he had lost the fight only due to “misunderstanding.” While it was surprising to the many who heard him saying, two people sitting right beside him at that time were equally stunned- Urijah Faber and Dominick Cruz.

Sonnen and Silva were to fight at the UFC 117 in Oakland. Some trash-talking from Sonnen preceded the much-anticipated fight. Once the fight started, it started living up to its hype.

There was no clear winner after four rounds. Perhaps, Sonnen might have had a slight edge. But an incredible triangle choke from Silva changed it all. To what was probably one of the best submission moves of all-time from Silva, Sonnen tapped out with just under two minutes left in the final round. Perhaps, he would have got the decision in his favor had he not tapped out. At least, that is what Sonnen believed.

Urijah Faber and Dominick Cruz laughed out on Sonnen’s words

Not long after his loss, Sonnen said that it was because of a “misunderstanding of the rules.” He thought that a tapping out would only end the round in favor of his opponent and not the whole fight.

“If anyone has explained it to me that (the tap) stops the fight, I wouldn’t have tapped,” Sonnen said.
