Dana White is in a pretty tight spot right now. A number of his prized fighters have openly started revolting against him for higher pay. Hence, Dana finds it the right time to remind such fighters of their contractual obligations.

At the post-fight press conference of UFC 250, White fired back at Jon Jones and Jorge Masvidal. Both of them have demanded their release from the UFC lately. Moreover, the issue is the same with both of them. They feel that they are getting paid lesser than they deserve. The UFC President said that both Masvidal and Jones still have several fights left on their deals. Hence, there is no way that they can simply demand their release.

“Here’s the thing about Masvidal. Masvidal just signed a new eight-fight deal,” Dana White said at UFC 250 post-fight press conference. “He’s got seven fights left in his deal. My people were working with him trying to get a deal done when he already has a deal. Jon Jones has seven fights left. He just signed a new deal less than a year ago.

“So guys you can say whatever you want I have a deal which is still a deal with both guys. This isn’t like one of those scenarios where they’ve got a three-year-old deal and they’re like, ‘Oh man that was three years ago. I’m in a much different place right now.’ This was months ago.”

Conor McGregor is the latest big name to rally against Dana White

In several instances, voices have been raised against the UFC. However, none have been as unequivocal and unified as they look right now. Jones and Masvidal were already two of the biggest names in the UFC. Apart from being really good fighters, both of them are massive draws as well. However, when it comes to drawing people, no one does a better job than Conor McGregor. Even “The Notorious One” joined the pack of fighters pressuring the UFC.

However, he didn’t do it by going down the same road as Masvidal and Jones. Instead of demanding for his release, he announced his retirement instead. Although, this is not the first time that he has done so. For McGregor, this is like the oldest trick in the book. Before tonight, he had announced his retirement twice, the latest one being last year in March.

With all these big fighters gunning at Dana right now, the pressure is surely on the UFC President. He already has his hands full in dealing with a pandemic. Dana White is doing everything he can to keep his business rolling. Fighter’s pay isn’t something that he would have expected to deal with right now.

However, the issue was bound to crop up sooner or later. There has been widespread criticism of the amount that the UFC pays to its fighters. While other major leagues pay their players a significant chunk of their revenue, the UFC only pays a meager 15-20 percent. It can afford to do so because it holds a certain monopoly by being leaps and bounds ahead of its competitors.
