Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs Weili Zhang exceeded every expectation that was ever levied upon the fight. However, as is always the case with such close contests, different people have their opinion about who should’ve come out on top. Former UFC champion, Conor McGregor has come out and has openly announced that he disagrees with the judges’ decision.
McGregor retweeted an image of the strawweight title fight with the caption, “Amazing contest! Wrong decision“. Everyone who would have watched the fight will agree with McGregor’s first two words. A look on the faces of the two warriors before and after the fight was enough to paint the picture of the battle that both of them went through. Dana White put it best when he said that the fight was “Hall-of-Fame” worthy. However, not everyone would agree with what McGregor said about the decision.

The judges gave the fight to Zhang. However, even that decision was not unanimous. Joanna had the advantage in significant strikes landed. But the champ’s strikes did far more damage upon being landed properly. The Polish fighter was visibly rattled by her Chinese counterpart. That could have been a major factor in swaying the decision her way.
Conor McGregor says that Joanna is the champion in his eyes
A fan responded to McGregor’s tweet with the same argument regarding how Joanna was the busier fighter. The tweet garnered a reply from Conor, who added that she was more damaging and accurate as well. The former double champ took nothing away from Zhang. But he didn’t mince his words when he said that he believes Joanna should have won the belt.

The fight for the 115-pound belt was exactly the kind that generates such a divide. MMA fans around the globe have been constantly arguing about who the rightful winner should be. However, there is no accurate answer. And taking nothing away from Zhang, Joanna could have been the winner on some other night with the same performance.
More active. More accurate. More damaging shots landed. What more do you need? Amazing fight! Zhang is absolutely tremendous! But Joanna is champion in my eyes.

The win extended Zhang’s streak to 21. Only Khabib has a better streak in the UFC. On the other hand, this was Jedrzejczyk’s fourth loss in her last six fights. But all of them have been against current or former champs. A rematch between the two is a tempting idea that seems bound to happen sooner or later.
Who do you think will take home the win in their rematch?
