Aljamain Sterling and Frankie Edgar were rumored to fight at Madison Square Garden’s UFC 244 last year. However, ‘Funk Master’ underwent wrist surgery. He has been out of action since last June where he beat Pedro Munhoz in a 3 round fight. ‘The Answer’ said he would like to fight ‘Funk Master’ next and he received an affirmative response.

In his Tweet, ‘Funk Master’ said, “I have no beef with anyone, just a mission. Beat down everyone Dana White puts in front of me to become UFC Champion.”

“Aljamain’s been saying nobody wants to fight him or this and that. That’s the guy we were supposed to fight on this past card in November. That was a possibility, and it never came about. I believe he had to get surgery. So, that would make sense for me – come back and fight Aljamain in June. I don’t know what his plans are or what he has lined up, but someone along that line I think would be ideal.”

A move to a new division to take on one of the top-ranked fighters will be challenging. However, Edgar says he’s up for the challenge. He reminded fans about his fight at short notice against Chan Sung Jung in December, but he added that he needs time. 

“Last fight, I kind of did it on two-weeks’ notice, went across to someone’s different country. I stacked the cards against myself. I don’t want to stack the cards against myself too much.”

‘The Answer’ added that it is tough to fight most of these guys. Hence he would like to prepare the right way. A win over ‘Funk Master’ would put him in the conversation for a fight with UFC Bantamweight Champion Henry Cejudo. ‘The Answer’ lobbied for this fight initially after Jose Aldo withdrew. It’s clear that he wants the gold and he wants it now.
