The rivalry between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier is one straight out of a movie. It is undoubtedly one of the longest active rivalries in the UFC. Their relationship has seen a lot of ups and downs.

In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, DC recalls the time when Jon Jones made some comments about his father and had to apologize on a three-way phone call with Dana White. After the passage of time, Daniel Cormier looks back and laughs at the incident. However, at that time it was something that really stung the fighter.

Even though Cormier was looking to take on Stipe Miocic for the Heavyweight title at UFC 226, his interactions with Jones kept persisting. After two fights and several years of verbal battles, DC claims that there’s nothing that surprises him about Jones.

“It’s kind of what he does. Before our very first fight, there were some direct messages sent. He said he was my daddy or some (expletive) like that. I guess fans, somebody told him something in reference to my father being murdered. So he had (UFC President) Dana (White) call me on three-way to apologize for saying anything like ‘I’m your daddy.’. But, every time we argue, he goes back to ‘I’m your daddy’ or something like that. He didn’t mean to apologize. So there’s deeper meaning to who’s your daddy?”- Daniel Cormier

DC at that time felt that the apology was phony. He claims involving White in the three-way call was rather unnecessary. Considering how Bones kept going back on his words and making the same jokes indicates something more than just banter.

So there’s deeper meaning to most of the stuff that we say. So outside of saying anything about my wife, and also the thing about daddy. Look, the guy’s not a good guy, so why would a s*****g like that have any limits?”- Daniel Cormier

Jones and DC last went toe to toe in the octagon in July 2017 at UFC 214. Jones went on to reclaim the 205-pound title with a third-round knockout. However, the UFC later went on to overturn the result to no-contest and strip Jones of the title, as he tested positive for a banned substance.
