Colby Covington showed an unusual side of his when he apologised to ATT teammate Dustin Poirier earlier this week. However, if anyone thought that Covington has more apologies up his sleeve, then he would be outrightly wrong. Covington went back to his usual more brazen self when he talked about his former training partner, Jorge Masvidal.
In a recent interview with Submission Radio, Covington unleashed his verbal wrath on the BMF Jorge Masvidal. He accused Masvidal of stabbing him in the back for money and business. Covington aimed at reminding Masvidal that his success is more of a fluke.
“You got your ass-whooping waiting, buddy. You got your 10 seconds of fame. They’re up. You hit lightning in a bottle,” said Covington. “But let’s look at your record, buddy. You got double-digit losses on your record. You’re a 50/50 average mediocre fighter.”

Masvidal and Covington have trained together for years at the American Top Team. However, after Masvidal rose to stardom last year, issues of an apparent rift between the two fighters surfaced. Covington accused “Gamebred” of being jealous of his success. In his recent interview, “Chaos” reminded Jorge that the latter could never beat him for a second while they trained together for years.
“I’m gonna break your jaw” – Colby Covington on fighting Jorge Masvidal
The former interim UFC Welterweight champion was not in favour of fighting Masvidal on the streets. However, his reluctance shouldn’t be confused with an indication of backing off. Instead, he is more concerned about Jorge’s safety.
“So, if you want to get embarrassed in front of the world, let’s do it because Jorge keeps talking about wanting to fight in the streets. It’s like, dude if we fight in the streets who’s going to pay your medical bills, Jorge? At least if we fight in the UFC octagon I’m gonna break your jaw, I’m gonna rearrange your face, and the UFC will cover your medical bills”

Covington also addressed his feud with another ATT teammate, Joanna Jedrzejczyk. He called the former UFC Strawweight a sidekick to Masvidal. He added that he had already predicted that she would get her face rearranged during her fight with Weili Zhang.
Just a day ago, ATT owner, Dan Lambert, had placed a ban on trash talking. Colby’s comments are, however, from before the ban. It will be noteworthy to see whether Lambert’s ban can put a rein on Colby’s mouth. Or will he continue to rip through opponents like he always has been doing?
