The news of his return came through ESPN’s Ariel Helwani who relayed the information from Diaz’s manager. The short report detailed that Nick had undergone a regimental 14-week test weight cut that provided excellent results. Not to mention, it seems as though his hunger to compete at the highest level has once again been stoked.

Additionally, the famed Diaz brothers were recently seen in high spirits, having a light shadowboxing session in public. Their hilarious back and forth was a reminder of the reasons why both Nick and Nate Diaz are universally loved.

Nick Diaz: A look back
Nick Diaz looks to break his near six-year inactivity streak and mount a meaningful return that could lead to contention. His last appearance ended in a no-contest when USADA flagged marijuana in his system.

What’s more, he hasn’t won a fight since October 2011 where he scalped a unanimous decision victory over BJ Penn. His inactivity led to inconsistent performances and subsequent losses, albeit to high-level competition. He faltered against Carlos Condit and Georges St-Pierre in what was considered the early decline of his storied career.

However, around 6 years removed, the 37-year-old seems to be in extremely well-kept shape and eyes a Welterweight return. It is largely unclear where exactly Nick Diaz will fit into the divisional landscape. Fight fans speculate that the promotion will target a high profile fan-friendly bout to initiate Diaz back into the fold.
