Israel Adesanya rules the UFC middleweight division as the undisputed champion and keeps a watchful eye on what his potential contenders are up to. The champion made his inaugural defense of the belt by beating Yoel Romero at UFC 248.

However, he hasn’t taken his attention off the ‘Soldier of God’ and suspects that the fighter pulled out of his fight against Uriah Hall because of some other reasons.

Israel Adesanya revealed that he trash-talked Romero ahead of their fight and got no “clear answer” to his question regarding Romero’s last drugs test. Hence, he suspects that the fighter’s recent pullout could be an enforced one.

Yoel Romero’s manager, Ibrahim Kawa, was having none of it and put an end to the issue immediately.

He tweeted, “Just heard the interview Izzy did with [Luke Thomas]. Sad that he thinks [Yoel Romero] is off the card due to [USADA]. Let me make it clear he is not off the card due to [USADA]. Yoel has been tested more than any other fighter between [USADA] and WADA and was always clean. We fought hard [to] exonerate him and won! I get you can’t fathom how a [42-year-old] man was able to scare you last go around but lay off the defamation of character”

The quick response could show that Romero had nothing to hide and his team didn’t want to remain silent in the face of such statements. Romero has popped for a banned substance before and even served a suspension for the same. However, it was later proved that his drugs tested returned positive because of a tainted supplement.

What’s next for Yoel Romero?

‘Soldier of God’ is 43 years old and is on borrowed time in the UFC. He came up short in his third attempt at a UFC title and has slipped in the rankings.

The UFC 248 fight against ‘The Last Stylebender’ was an underwhelming bout. Fans may remember it largely for Paulo Costa attempting to get a piece of Adesanya after the fight.
