The death of George Floyd has sent shock waves in the USA. The issue has become a hot potato after the video of his death surfaced online. People have even taken the protests to the streets, demanding justice. Several big names from the sporting world have also joined in the protests by showing their solidarity online. Similarly, UFC Light Heavyweight champ Jon Jones has demanded justice for the African-American male.

George was held in handcuffs by the police on Monday over non-violent charges. A policeman restrained Floyd by keeping his knee on Floyd’s neck. However, the position was stifling for George, who had a difficult time breathing. He even called out for help, stating that he was going to die. The bystanders also questioned the police’s actions.

However, the policeman refused to yield, and Floyd was unable to move after about four minutes. His eventual death has sparked protests in the city of Minneapolis. The four officers involved in the incident were fired after the video surfaced online.

Jon Jones demands justice for Floyd in a series of tweets

Jon Jones has had his run-ins with the law. Moreover, being a mixed martial arts practitioner, he knows the pain someone experiences when someone attempts to put you in a choke. After seeing the footage, Jones claimed that he hasn’t seen this level of pain ever in training or his fights. He asserted that the officer’s action resulted in a blood choke.

Jon Jones compared the police’s knee on Floyd to the choke that UFC Light Heavyweight Ovince Saint-Preux often pulls off. It is named the Von Flue Choke. Having fought and defeated OSP, Jones must have prepared himself for the choke and hence can claim to know how painful it is.

Along with Jon Jones, several other notable names have also come out in support of Floyd. NBA star LeBron James has posted a picture of former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick kneeling in protest along with the picture of Floyd.

Two of Jon Jones’ biggest rivals out of 205-pounds have also voiced their concern over the event. Middleweight champ Israel Adesanya posted several stories on his Instagram, demanding justice. Heavyweight challenger Francis Ngannou posted also posted the same picture as LeBron James.
