Belal Muhammad is on a roll lately. The 33-year-old welterweight is crushing every challenge he faces. He has faced some tough opponents such as Demian Maia and Dhiego Lima, but he still came on top.

Muhammad will clash with Stephen Thompson for a co-main event fight at the UFC Fight Night 199. The event is taking place on December 18, 2021, at the UFC Apex facility in Enterprise, Nevada, part of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Area. Additionally, the event will be headlined by a heavyweight bout between Derrick Lewis and Chris Daukaus.

Recently, the Chicago-born fighter was called out by Khamzat Chimaev. Belal verbally agreed to fight the rising Dagestani prospect. In an interview with MMAjunkie, Belal touched on this topic. In addition to praising Khamzat, he said, “He’s the biggest name right now, the biggest star, has the most momentum, the biggest hype.

“He has Conor McGregor hype where it’s like you beat him, you gain more from beating him than anybody else in the division–where he has this stigma of him being the boogeyman of how he just dominated everybody. So you beat a guy like that, you’re well..you’re the next star. You steal all of his hype, you steal all of his momentum. So it’s like, why not? It would have made sense.”

Will Belal Muhammad vs Khamzat Chimaev happen?

On one end, Khamzat Chimaev is looking for a worthy opponent and on the other, Belal is set to fight Stephen Thompson. ‘Borz’ is probably on a fast-track road to getting the title shot after a few fights. He currently boasts an impressive 10-0 record spanning his entire pro-MMA career.

If Belal manages to win his upcoming fight, he will have enough hype and wins for UFC to pit the two together. Until then, these two are unlikely to face each other; Khamzat Chimaev will most likely pick another fighter before fighting Belal.
