UFC veteran Josh Emmett revealed he’s gunning for a title shot early next year. Emmett triumphed over Shane Burgos earlier today, in what was seen as a proper dog fight.
Emmett showed true heart and desire in the fight. Both men swung for the fences from the very first round and absorbed near fight-ending punches and kicks.
Josh Emmett revealed after the fight that he blew his ACL in the first 15 seconds of the fight and had to dig deep to secure the victory.
Emmett is riding a 3-fight win streak and is paving his way to a title shot, soon enough. Emmett was ranked #4 in the rankings in 2018 but lost out on his place and a title shot due to a series of injuries.
He also mentioned that due to politics, several undeserving fighters were placed ahead of him in the pecking order
“Yeah, I was close in 2018. I was ranked 4th in the world and I had a small hiccup. I had to reset, restart, and work my way back up.
“So I was there before in the top 5 one shot away from the title. I feel like I’m there right now. My next fight could be for a title eliminator. Get a big win and then I’ll fight for the title.
“I want to fight one more time this year at least and run that title in early 21,” said Emmett after the fight.
Josh Emmett certainly deserves a title shot after such an impressive performance against Shane Burgos. However, Emmet’s potential opponent will be decided after Max Holloway and Alexander Volkanovski face off.
With the UFC veteran at the prime of his career, and hungrier than ever, fans are waiting to see if Emmett gets the title shot he deserves.
