Tiger Muay Thai gym, located in Phuket, has been home to many UFC champions, including Alexander Volkanovski, Valentina Shevchenko, and of course, Petr Yan, the former UFC Bantamweight champion.

However, things have not been too well for Yan in recent times. The Russian fighter has fallen on a hard time in his UFC career since losing his Bantamweight title to Aljamain Sterling at UFC 259. His last three fights have all ended in losses for him. This has led him to make a big decision.

Petr Yan is trying something different to get back to winning
‘No Mercy’ is a highly-rated bantamweight fighter who once had a 10-fight winning streak. He even defeated Hall of Famer Jose Aldo to win the bantamweight title. However, since losing his bantamweight title to ‘Funkmaster’, he has only been able to win one out of his last four fights. In order to shake up things, Yan is now planning to switch training camps and train at a different gym in hopes of regaining back his bantamweight championship. This decision comes after training for many years at the Tiger Muay Thai gym.

His last fight was a testament to his woes inside the Octagon as 1st-ranked bantamweight fighter, Merab Dvalishvili, dominated him at UFC on ESPN+ 79. Petr Yan has dropped down to the 5th rank in the division and needs to turn around his career if he wants to find himself in title contention. Moreover, a fellow countryman has shown an interest in training him back in Thailand.

Anatoly Malykhin is interested in training ‘No Mercy’
Anatoly Malykhin has shown an interest in training Petr Yan for his next fight. ‘Sladiky’ recently captured the ONE heavyweight championship after defeating Arjan Bhullar via TKO. Furthermore, he claimed that Thailand was his second home, and as such, opened his dream gym named ‘Dobrynya’ in Phuket. In a recent interview with a Russian media outlet, Malykhin expressed that he was open to helping train Petr Yan for his next fight.

‘Sladiky’ said, “Of course, I am ready to help Petr. He has already come to my gym, and I am sure that when he arrives in Thailand for his next fight, he will definitely come to me.” Furthermore, The ONE heavyweight champion also mentioned that his doors are always open for Yan. He added, “He is my friend, not just the doors are open for him, the green light is everywhere for him.”

There is still no word as to which gym he’d consider training next. Petr Yan had previously trained with the American Top Team, and some may believe that the former bantamweight champion could go back there. However, with Malykhin’s offer on the table, we will have to wait and see what he decides is best for his UFC future.
