Soon after signing a new 4 fight deal with the UFC, Carla Esparza has already agreed to her next fight.

Former UFC strawweight champion Carla Esparza is set to make a return to the Octagon this July. She has agreed upon a fight taking place on the UFC Fight Night card, which will take place on Dana White’s ‘Fight Island’.

She has agreed to take on Marina Rodriguez. Though for now, the agreement is only verbal. In a few days, official contracts are expected to be signed by both the parties involved. And the fact that it will take place on the infamous island adds another degree of charm.

“Carla is signing a new multi-fight deal that is well deserved and one that she is very happy with,” Esparza’s longtime manager Brian Butler of Suckerpunch Entertainment told MMA Fighting on Wednesday. “Her next fight will be July 15th vs. another talented and ranked opponent in Marina Rodriguez.”

So it’s almost official. On July 15th, we will see Esparza take on Marina Rodriguez. And with an official confirmation on its way, it’s a fight we cannot wait to watch.

The build-up to Carla Esparza’s next fight

Esparza has been on an impeccable run recently. She is on a three-fight win streak, with the most recent coming at UFC 249. A victory over Michelle Waterson made it three. Esparza was the promotions first ever 115lbs champion and to this date remains a top-flight contender. This new contract solidifies her for at least another 4 fights with the promotion.

Meanwhile, her next opponent, Rodriguez, is no less. She is undefeated with a career record of 12-0. In a turn of events, she managed to pull off a draw at her last fight against Cynthia Calvillo. She holds wins over Tecia Torres and Jessica Aguilar. All this credit is owed to her entry to the UFC via Dana White’s contender series.

All this aside, we can’t wait to watch this fight go through on the Fight Island!
