Years Before Marrying Serena Williams, ‘Lover’ Alexis Ohanian Opened Up To Joe Rogan About Not Being Able To Fulfill ‘Father’s Prophecy’

Joe Rogan and his podcast is of the most popular and most controversial shows out there today. The longtime UFC commentator built his reputation as a podcast host through ‘The Joe Rogan Experience.’ The podcast is home to several conversations on the internet. However, Rogan deserves credit for inviting individuals from different areas, including sports, entertainment, science, politics, and academics, to name a few.

One such entertaining conversation he had was with the co-founder of ‘Reddit’ and tennis icon, Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian.

During their conversation, Ohanian disclosed to Rogan that his father named him after a Nicaraguan boxer, Alexis Argüello. Rogan told Ohanian he knew who Argüello was and that he had seen him fight live.

Talking about the inspiration behind his name, Ohanian revealed that he did not fulfill his father’s prophecy:

“I didn’t fulfill my father’s prophecy of me being a boxer. Instead, I guess I’m a lover, not a fighter.”

Rogan applauded Ohanian for figuring out his own path and not living up to someone else’s expectations. He commented that one doesn’t have to be a fighter in the physical form as long as one figures out a way to succeed in life.

He told Ohanian that people admire him for the same things they admired his namesake. He appreciated Ohanian for being involved in the creation of “the coolest f**king website on the internet.”

The Serena Williams-Alexis Ohanian story

Alexis Ohanian and Serena Williams have one of the most inspiring relationship stories out there. Ohanian and Williams met in 2015 in Rome. Williams was there for the Italian Open and Ohanian was there to attend the Festival of Media Global conference. The pair ended up staying at the same hotel, the Cavalieri, where they met for the first time. Ohanian proposed to Williams at the same hotel in 2016. They had their child Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. in September 2017 and got married in November.

Ohanian has been a very supportive husband for Serena Williams. He has always been present at Williams’s matches to cheer her on. In addition to being a devout husband, Ohanian is also an advocate for paternity leaves. He himself took a full sixteen weeks off after the birth of their first child. He started fighting for federal paid family leave legislation in 2019 after watching his wife struggle during childbirth.
