UFC icon Glover Teixeira is on the verge of another title shot should he manage a win on November 7. The Brazilian light heavyweight faces Thiago Santos in the main event for UFC Vegas 13 to determine the top contender. At the age of 41, Glover has had a career resurgence and could well be in line for gold with a win.

However, his prowess in high-level competition comes as no surprise to fans. At one point, Teixeira was on a 20-fight winning streak. Additionally, he fought for the belt against then-champion Jon Jones at UFC 172. He put forth a good account for himself in that 2014 bout and showed his status as an elite 205-pounder. Let’s turn back the clock and witness one of his standout moments.

Round 1

The first-round saw Teixeira look as sharp as ever as he managed to stuff an early takedown from Jones. The blast double leg was thwarted and Glover responded with looping hooks in response from the break. Not to mention, he also landed an overhand shot that looked crisp. However, he telegraphed a body kick and ‘Bones’ Jones was quick to score a takedown and mount top control.

Round 2

The then number #2 ranked contender gained early confidence when he stuffed another takedown attempt. Glover found it difficult to get into Jones’ 84.5-inch reach and was kept at the end of his jab. What’s more, signs of Jones’ dirty clinch boxing came into the display when he looked to flatten the challenger against the cage.

Rounds 3 and 4

The next five minutes saw the fight sway in the champion’s favor as he ended the round by cutting up Teixeira’s right eye. Glover Teixeira wasn’t able to keep up with the wide variety of oblique kicks and short elbows that did major damage. His only consolation was that he defended another one of Jon’s takedowns.

The cut on Teixeira’s eyes began to look worse as he was unable to land his patented looping power shots. What’s more, he got backed up against the fence and was a sitting duck for the consensus GOAT’s precision punches and elbows. Jon Jones’ seventh title defense was going according to plan.

Round 5

The final championship round saw Jones finally land the clean takedown that he was looking for. Once Glover got back to his feet, he continued swinging heavy hooked shots that Jones avoided. The story of the fight was Jon’s nasty clinch game that showcased his mean streak in the division.

Jon Jones won the fight by a unanimous decision with all three scorecards reading 50-45.
