UFC President Dana White spoke to Heidi Androl following UFC Vegas 27 and revealed some massive news for fight fans. The long-time boss of the UFC responded to Androl’s question regarding UFC 265 on August 7 not having a main event. Amanda Nunes is set to defend her belt against Julianna Pena on the card and Androl wanted to know more about it.

White obliged and let it spill that UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou was being targeted for a spot on the card. August 7 will probably be the date that Francis Ngannou aims to defend his strap for the first time. While no bout is set in stone currently, Dana White seemed confident that he would secure a match-up for ‘The Predator’.

“Perhaps, [Ngannou will be the main event for UFC 265] we’re working on something’s right now. And yes, that’s one of the fights we’re working on.”

Francis Ngannou: On a journey to the top

‘The Predator’, who won his belt at UFC 260 in March, is one of the newest champions of the year. Francis Ngannou scalped the belt in emphatic fashion as he absolutely smoked Stipe Miocic in round 2. Ngannou landed a perfectly placed counter shot that sent Miocic to the canvas almost instantaneously.

In the months since his title fight win, Francis Ngannou has been playing around with the possibility of facing Jon Jones next. ‘Bones’ Jones is waiting to actualize his move up to the heavyweight division and is still without a fight. However, the UFC and Jones haven’t been able to make a deal, and it seems like the fight is on hold for now.

Dana White has gone on record saying that the UFC has now shifted their attention towards booking Derrick Lewis against Ngannou. Both men faced off once before at UFC 226. As neither man was willing to risk getting knocked out, they engaged in what UFC fans dub as the most boring bout in UFC history.

However, there’s been a massive change to the overall games of both Ngannou and Lewis. They’ve grown as fighters and have gone on devastating runs in the UFC’s heavyweight division. Fans are already excited about the rematch and are optimistic that it will deliver.
