Chan Sung Jung picked up a decisive win over Dan Ige in the main event for UFC Vegas 29. ‘The Korean Zombie’ showed tactical awareness from the get-go and secured the UD win over a game contender. With the win, he maintained his number 4 ranking in the division and has inched his way closer to contention.

Dan Ige came in as the number 8 ranked contender and was fresh off a massive first-round KO over Gavin Tucker. He proved that he’s ready for the big leagues. However, Jung had the perfect game plan to thwart his offense. The story of the fight was Jung’s ability to secure well-timed takedowns and establish dominant grappling control.

Chiefly, Chan Sung Jung’s measured approach to fighting is a stark deviation from what fans are used to seeing. However, as he comes closer to a title shot, it remains paramount that he maintains his durability. This was his first victory via decision since 2008, thus putting a stamp on his new approach to the fight game.

What’s next for ‘The Korean Zombie’?

The South Korean powerhouse will have to wait for a meaningful period of time as the upper ranks of the division are currently tied up. Alexander Volkanovski and Brian Ortega are slated to battle later on this year, meaning a title shot is out of the question. What’s more, Jung’s most recent loss came to Ortega, meaning he’ll have to see how things play out.

The only logical option is a fight against Max Holloway who is ranked above him. However, ‘Blessed’ was already booked to face Yair Rodriguez before suffering an undisclosed injury that forced him out of the bout. The general consensus is that Holloway vs Rodriguez will be re-booked leaving Chan Sung Jung in the cold.

Unless he chooses to fight someone ranked below him, ‘The Korean Zombie’ is in for the long wait. He’s already had long stints of inactivity and may take a bout against a lower-ranked opponent simply to remain active. His best course of action would be to continue training and wait to see if an opening is created in the Holloway vs Rodriguez match-up.
