There are very few fighters walking on this planet who have achieved anything closer to what Daniel Cormier has in his illustrious MMA career. After representing his nation in wrestling, Daniel Cormier stepped into the world of MMA only to cement his legacy as one of the greatest ever to do it.

After becoming the Strikeforce champion, Cormier came into UFC to prove his mettle. Though a couple of setbacks against Jon Jones shadowed his legacy, Cormier bounced back and became the first fighter to claim the light heavyweight and the heavyweight title. However, that did not come to fruition without any obstacles.

Though DC started his MMA career as a heavyweight he moved down to the light heavyweight. Cormier spent the majority of his UFC career at 205 and it was not easy for DC to cut weight for the division. Cormier looked diminished at times due to the tough weight cut. He also allegedly cheated to make weight for the title fight with Anthony Johnson. In a recent post, Cormier showed the ugly side of fighting and showed gratitude to his team.

Daniel Cormier is one fight away from retirement and it’s very unlikely that he would ever go back to light heavyweight. According to Cormier himself, he would retire after the trilogy with Stipe Miocic. But if he stays for one more fight with his former rival, Jon Jones then that’s going to happen at 205.

Cormier has said on many occasions that he lost the two fights at 205 and if he wants to avenge those losses then it would have to be at 205.

However, with Jon Jones aiming to make his heavyweight debut the trilogy between Cormier and Jones might happen at heavyweight. If Cormier regains the title from Miocic then the light heavyweight champion against the heavyweight champion would certainly be a great way to end a rivalry.
