In December 2015, Tony Ferguson was up against Edson Barboza at The Chelsea in Las Vegas. The lightweight bout was part of the main card of the TUF 22 Finale event.

The fight saw Ferguson claim his seventh straight UFC victory.

Ferguson claimed the victory in a manner that he had done on multiple occasions in his career. Ferguson’s signature submission move, the D’Arce choke, forced Barboza to submit at the 2:54 mark of the second round.

Edson Barboza, who had previous meetings with both the fighters, felt Ferguson had an edge over Khabib in the upcoming clash.

“I think Ferguson has a little advantage because he’s a little bit better striker,” Barboza recently said. “He’s a little bit more creative. Everybody knows what Khabib is doing, but he’s doing it very well. Everybody knows, but nobody can stop it. But I feel Ferguson has a little bit (of an edge) because he’s more creative – you never know what’s coming.”

While a D’Arce choke forced Barboza to submit against Ferguson, he went five rounds with Khabib at UFC 219.

Both guys are super powerful, but I think Khabib is more powerful, especially on the ground. He’s a little bit stronger. But some things, Khabib is better, some things Tony Ferguson is better. That’s what makes the match very exciting,” Barboza further said.
