Jon Jones successfully defended his light heavyweight championship in the main event of UFC 247 against Dominick Reyes. Although he suffered early adversity in the first few rounds of the fight, Jones ended the fight by decisively winning the last 2 rounds.
Since it’s a ten-point must system in the UFC, the fighter who wins the most number of rounds ultimately wins the fight. There are some critics who claim that Reyes won the fight. The judges and the referees have been targeted by many, including the President of the UFC, Dana White.
Apart from all the controversy, the fact remains that Jon Jones is still the light heavyweight champion. As Joe Rogan pointed out, Jones knows how to win fights in dire situations. It is what makes Jones so great at what he does.

Jones and his camp have hinted a move to heavyweight for quite a few times now. When not in camp, Jones’ walkaround weight is near 240 lbs. The current heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic came in at 230 lbs for his last fight. There wouldn’t be much of size differential between the two and Jones will likely be the better wrestler and faster on the feet. He could be a champion at two weight classes. Besides the title, Jones can also have super fights with fighters like Francis Ngannou.
For months, Israel Adesanya and Jon Jones have gone back and forth on twitter. Adesanya recently announced that he wants to face Jones in 2021. Should Adesanya win his match against Romero, Jones can fight Adesanya next. It would be an exciting matchup. Both men bring elite-level skills to the table.
The champion may also decide to stay at his own weight class and continue to dominate the competition. It would be interesting to see Jones face new faces like Corey Anderson, Johnny Walker, and Jan Blachowicz.
