“Unbelievable”: Serena Williams Reviews the Changes in Venus Williams’ Game at WTA Lexington

One of the best sister-duos to play the game, Serena Williams and Venus Williams faced each other for the 31st time in the Round of 16 of the Top Seed Open in Lexington, USA. And we were sent back to the classics as it produced a three-set thriller. In the end, Serena won 3-6 6-2 6-4.
Tennis was forced to go on a break as the coronavirus pandemic spread across the globe. And now after five months, we saw it return. The players are slowly showing their old prowess and as weeks go by we can expect some more thrillers.

Serena had a contrasting first set where Venus was very comfortable. Then Serena changed her play and took the 2nd set. The last set was a tense one and Serena gave her everything in the last two games to win the match. After the match, Serena sat down for a press conference and spoke about the match and how Venus’ game has evolved further.

Serena lauded Venus’ coach Eric Hechtman. She said he is doing an amazing job and Venus is playing unbelievably well.
“I have been to tons of her practices and I saw the changes that she made and I think they are great changes. I think her coach Eric is doing an amazing job and she is playing unbelievable.” Serena said

She spoke further about Venus’ game. Venus kept changing her style. There were long points and Venus was making Serena run for points. Venus also had long serves and great forehands up her sleeve.
“It was a high-quality match. Like I said Venus is playing really good and it was a lot of long points, running me around. Then at one point, it was just big serves and so I thought that was really interesting. She was making some great forehands. It is inspiring so I think it was really good” Serena said

Serena leads the head to head between the sisters at 19-12. At the age of 40, Venus is still competitive and that is commendable. She is an inspiration and icon of the sport.
