However, there was one obstacle between himself and P10, namely Nico Hulkenberg in his final race. What also didn’t help matters was the fact that the other Renault of Daniel Ricciardo was breathing down his neck.

Then, on the final lap, with a few corners to go, Carlos Sainz sent one down the inside of his former teammate. After that, he held onto the position for the rest of the lap, amid a dual Renault onslaught.

Immediately after completing the move, he briefly patted himself on the back. Then, once he reached the chequered flag, the real celebrations began for Sainz and the McLaren team.
