This year’s console war has gotten interesting now, what with Xbox finally revealing the retail prices and the release date for the Series X and Series S consoles. Naturally, fans had started wondering when Sony would reveal further details about the much-awaited PS5.

Well, Sony has announced the date for their upcoming PS5 showcase event, and it is on the 16th of this month. Although the official announcement says that the event will focus more on next-gen titles, fans can expect some news about the price and exact launch date as well.

Fans can catch the upcoming PlayStation 5 live event on Twitch or YouTube. It will start at 1pm PDT / 9pm BST / 10pm CEST. As of now, PlayStation is expecting a run time of around 40 minutes for the digital showcase. Sony will reveal further news about the PS5 exclusive titles that will release along with the launch of the console, and titles set to release further.

Where does the PS5 stand in the current console war?

The stakes are really high in this year’s console war. The consoles from both Microsoft and Sony aim at revolutionizing and ushering in the next-gen of gaming. The PS5, with its extremely powerful hardware, promises a level of visual detail and minimal loading times that players have never seen before.

Along with that, the DualSense controller will enable players to be a part of the game’s sensory experience through haptic feedback. Furthermore, the exclusive games that have been showcased until now have already won hearts and fans cannot wait to get their hands on the console to try them out.

Overall, looks like popular opinion is siding with the PS5, as of now. Amidst all this, Xbox has already laid all their cards on the table. Reports have already suggested that Sony has decided to reduce the original price of the PS5 to match that of the Series X console. Having said that, there is no guarantee that the event will surprise fans with the release date and price details.
