“Urinated Blood”: Jo-Wilfried Tsonga Recalls the Historic Battle of Beating Roger Federer

20-Time Grand Slam winner, Roger Federer is one of the biggest assets in tennis. The performances all throughout his career have been exceptional. At times, the manner in which the Swiss ace commands the tennis court is second to none.

Although Roger has tasted a lot of success, he has suffered defeats against some of the finest players on Tour. Besides the likes of Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, there have been other players who have handed the eight-time Wimbledon champion a loss on more than one occasion.

French tennis star Jo-Wilfried Tsonga happens to one of them. The two players have been involved in many battles, with the Swiss star leading the head-to-head record 12-6. Recently, Jo-Wilfried spoke on one of the matches they had played in Montreal.

Urinated Blood After the Final Against Roger Federer

It was the final at the Rogers Cup. The former World No. 5 beat Roger in a close match, winning 7-5 7-6 (3). However, the French star revealed a shocking incident that took place after the game.

He said, “After the final against Roger, I felt totally exhausted. I remember going to the bathroom and starting to urinate blood. It got me scared and called the doctor, who told me that due to my extreme fatigue and tension. I had broken muscle fibers and my body passed them out through urine.”

During the course of the tournament, Tsonga had beaten Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, and Roger Federer to lift the Rogers Cup in 2014. He added, “I will never forget that and all the battles I had with the Big 3. It was immensely proud of the face.”

Although they happen to be rivals on the tennis courts, Roger and Jo-Wilfried are warm towards each other, whenever they come across on Tour.
