

After months of hiatus, Tennis is nearing its return. The first Grand Slam tournament in the resuming season will be the US Open and it will begin on the 31st of August.
Due to the pandemic, the USTA has had to cut a few corners. Especially with the decision to cancel the qualifiers. A Grand Slam has 128 players. Out of which 104 qualify based on rankings. Further, lower-ranked players will play the qualifying rounds, and from that 16 qualify. The rest eight are filled by the wildcards. This year there are no qualifiers so 120 players will qualify based on rankings. And rest eight will be wildcards

US Open 2020 Men’s Singles Entry List
This year as there are no qualifiers, the entry list has been made using the rankings and protected rankings. An initial list of 120 players was made by the US Open.

Novak Djokovic headlines the list being ranked World No.1. This year’s US Open will not have Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. And so Djokovic will have to fight his way through young stars like Daniil Medvedev, Dominic Thiem, Alexander Zverev, etc to win the Grand Slam.
Three players used their protected ranking to make through to the entry list. And the last player to get in the entry list is India’s Sumit Nagal ranked 127th.
US Open 2020 Women’s Singles Entry List
On the Women’s side as well there were no qualifiers, the entry list was made using the rankings and protected rankings. And here as well 120 players have featured.

World No.1 Ash Barty had decided against traveling to the US. And so Simona Halep is leading the list. This list includes a lot of former champs like Serena Williams, Bianca Andreescu, Naomi Osaka, etc.
And unlike the men’s list which had a few grand slam winners. The women’s list has other grand slam winners in Petra Kvitova, Garbine Muguruza, Venus Williams, etc.

Four players in the women’s list have used the protected rankings to make the entry list. And the last player on the list is Australia’s Lizette Cabrera ranked 127th.
