After months of speculation, it was confirmed that the 2020 US Open will be played. While this was certainly good news, there were some restrictions put in place to control the spread of the coronavirus. One of the most unpopular ones was that fans will not be present in the arena. And to control the spread even further, there won’t be any line judges on most tennis courts. Check it out.

Instead of line judges, there will be electronic line-calling on most of the courts at the US Open. The courts where there where the electronic line-calling system will not be used are the largest arenas – the Arthur Ashe Stadium and Louis Armstrong Stadium.
Clearly, the US Open is taking extreme measures to control the spread of the coronavirus. But that is something that is necessary since the United States is the country that has recorded the most number of coronavirus cases in the entire world.

Also, I think everyone will agree that it is better to take such extreme measures than to cancel the tournament. That was what happened with the 2020 Wimbledon and it is good that it is not happening with the US Open.
Right now, the major concern for the US Open is the participants. Many tennis players are not comfortable with the restrictions and are threatening to skip the tournament. And they might be more inclined to do so after the Tennis Tour schedule was announced.

This schedule is the most exhausting one in the history of tennis. There are going to be different tournaments played almost every single week which is going to be exhausting especially with travel. This is why players might skip the US Open in order to rest themselves.
Since the US Open is one of the biggest tournaments in tennis, this is something that should not happen. And hopefully, this year’s editions will be an astounding success despite the coronavirus pandemic.
