US Open To Have First Female Tournament Director

There are some major upheavals going on in American tennis at the moment. It was recently reported that the United States Tennis Association (USTA) had eliminated 110 personnel from its ranks. As per the latest reports, there are also some key changes at the top authority positions in the prestigious organization. The US tennis authority is all set to appoint its first woman tournament director. Notably, the tournament director is directly responsible for the conduct of the US Open. Needless to say, it’s a key position with a lot of power.

News has also come about the executive level changes in the organization. This has been done by making some transfers from the US Open warmup Western and Southern Open. Let’s find out what these changes are.

What are the changes in the US Open tennis authority?

The woman who has got the top job is none other than recognized tennis name Stacey Allaster. For the uninitiated, Stacey has previously served as the CEO of the WTA.

This means that she has some experience in the organizational side of things. She will be replacing David Brewer who held the position for a period of 20 years. He had retired after the US Open last year.

Allaster was previously the USTA chief executive of professional tennis. In other changes, Andre Silva will now be the tournament director for PGA Tour’s Player Championship effective June 16. He was previously the tournament director for the Western and Southern Championships.

Silva will replace Ryan Hart as Players Championship Tournament Director as Hart is transitioning to a new position within the tournament’s management. These are some major changes with the possibility of the US Open still up in the air. It will be interesting to see if the new authority figures have any say in the organization of the US Open amidst the Coronavirus disaster that has struck the entire tennis community now.
