Ryan Crouser is a force to reckon with in the realm of shot-put. The track-and-field sensation’s athletic prowess has always resonated with dedication and determination. The Oregon hailer has delivered spectacular performances even amid the toughest of times. No one can ever forget his gold-winning performance in the World Athletic Championships in Budapest with a blood-clot scare. Success once again belonged to him at the recent USATF indoor championships. The occasion brought out some pain points from the champion.

Crouser is a stalwart in both shot put and discus throwing, showcasing his precision in front of his fans. To top it, he is an Olympic gold medalist. But this time the buzz isn’t about his accolade but about a complaint he shared in one of his latest interviews.

Ryan Crouser wants his record ‘where it should be’

Recently, the World Indoor Game took place, where Crouser scored a 22.82-meter indoor record, but his will to achieve more is not setting well with the performance. The official Twitter page of FloTrack shared a video after his record-making 22.82m throw in the USATF indoor championships. Mentioning his feat, it wrote, “Ryan Crouser holds the 22.82m indoor record but wants a bigger mark at World Indoors.” However, it was the other part of the caption that caught the attention instantly.

The caption quoted Crouser as saying in the clip, “I’d like to move out that world indoor record kind of closer to where it should be.” It also added, “His indoor best of 23.38m from 2023 was not ratified as a world record.”

Crouser wants to mark himself in a bigger position at the event. He subtly reminded the audience about his performance in an exhibition event in Pocatello, Idaho, in February 2023, where he scored 23.38m. This was one centimeter further than his effort at the 2021 US Olympic Trials. But that was ruled out for record, as the throwing circle had not met official requirements. But Crouser hinted that title should have been under his belt. But he also made his intentions clear for the year.

In the video, Crouser said, “It’s one that I, the way my career has played out, is one I haven’t ever gotten.” With that, he added, “I’ve been injured and missed it or been injured and didn’t throw out my best and got a silver, so hopefully this will be my year.” And he has every reason to claim that.

Changing frustration into motivation for the upcoming Olympics

What sets Crouser apart from his competitors is his will to pursue self-improvement. He has the largest share among the top shot put throws of all time. Thus he has established himself as the reigning champion in his field. In another interview, he said, “I’m always trying to get better and compete against myself, and throw as far as I can.” This hunger has made him to take a surprising move.

The 30-year-old shot-putter is a self-coached athlete, as his sight toward his lofty goal made him determined to coach himself. Despite having an impressive resume, he is choosing not to rest but to practice harder, as the 2024 Paris Olympics are on the horizon. Fans are now eagerly waiting to see the outcome of his hard work on the ground.
