During the match against Egypt, FIFA caught another section of Argentina supporters making monkey-like gestures directly toward him on the live stream. On July 7, following this incident, it was reported that FIFA launched its investigation.

The investigation is not just limited to Speed, but also to three different sets of supporters who complained of a toxic fanbase. Cape Verdean and Egyptian supporters had beer bottles thrown at them, including reports of physical altercations.
