Michael Phelps, the most decorated athlete in the history of swimming, was once seen watching a game of golf in which Tiger Woods participated. The swimmer was visiting Augusta National for the Masters in 2019. After the final round, he spoke to NBC Sports.

Phelps said that he was invited to the final round of the Augusta National Masters by a buddy who is a member of the same.

Michael Phelps got the best seats in the house for the Tiger Woods moment

Speaking with ‘Today’ and NBC sports, Phelps spoke about his experience of standing behind Woods during the event as he slowly closed the gap between himself and his sixth green jacket.

“I just got lucky,” said Phelps, upon being asked by ‘Today’ what it was like to obtain the brilliant seats on the 16th hole.

Tiger Woods Will Soon Be Forced to Do Something He’s Always Hated

The ultimate comeback story was complete when Woods made the deciding putt, his mom and kids watching on to join in the festivities.

Phelps stated, “the chance to see (Tiger Woods) at that place be able to come back when everybody counted him out. It’s cool because I kind of have an idea of what that feels like, climbing back to the top of the mountain.”

After the golfer’s infamous public apology to diffuse media attention from the news of his extramarital affairs, 2019 witnessed the athlete’s redemption.

Memorable moments were abundant on that Sunday, unlike any other for the players who witnessed it. This is where the first major tournament of the year is held. Last year’s Masters served as a warm welcome as most of the nation warmed up after a long winter as the place turned into the center of the sports universe as Tiger Woods sought his fifth green jacket and 15th major victory.

Woods triumphantly concluded his most recent return from a damaged reputation, only two years after telling his colleagues that he believed his career was done.

Phelps was seen cheering on Woods as he attempted to putt holes. He said, “Being able to watch him and how in control he is of every single thing on the golf course… It’s something I can relate to.”

The swimmer had no idea of his presence in the live broadcast. It is only later that he found out. Since no phones are permitted on the Augusta National course, he was oblivious to being spotted in the crowd. Although, he believes that the 15-time major champion knew that he was there, despite his unhindered attention being on his game.
