Simone Biles is going to compete in the US Classic next month, a major competition along the road to Paris. While the gymnastics mileposts were lined up, Biles took a break and attended the White Sox game and threw the first pitch together with her husband, and Chicago Bears player Jonathan Owens onWatching Biles toss the ceremonial first pitch was like experiencing a deja vu. The only difference? This time she wore the rival team’s jersey instead of the Houston Astros’ in the 2019 World Series.

Eventually, people began looking for her debut throw, and digging deep, the treasure of Simone Biles’s accounts from the archives began trending. The best part was that she was surrounded by packed stands and was just as terrified as everyone else, praying not to end up on the internet’s epic fail videos.

Simone Biles steals the spotlight on MLB ground

You will casually find any gymnastics event crowded when Simone Biles is performing. But in 2019, Biles stole the show of the sports night where she wasn’t even performing. She did, however, do a clean backflip in front of a crowd of 40,000 wearing jeans, a Huston ‘ASTROS’ emblem jersey, and converse shoes. MLB.com also published the clip from Biles’s ceremonial first pitch before Game 2 of the World Series.

After her gymnastics stunt, she threw the ball which was caught by then-Astros player Jake Marisnick who then autographed it for her. However, it’s the interesting behind-the-scenes tale of this throw which in 2019 received 4M views on Twitter(now X). A perfectionist at her craft, Simone Biles confessed to Uniwatch’s Paul Lukas about training to throw the ball since she was terrified of throwing a wild pitch.

She said, “I was so nervous…Much more nervous than I’d be for gymnastics.” Biles was aware of the MLB cameos but hadn’t picked a ball in her life to play a sport so her decent throw did require a couple of practice throws. All the efforts went in so she doesn’t “end up in one of those ‘fail‘ videos,” she added. But this time, the limelight was shared between the couple similar to the 2022 World Series appearance together.

Baseball veterans former skipper and baseball multi-personality Tony La Russa and six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach Bill Belichick attended the MLB game on Friday night at the Guaranteed Rate Field. On Saturday, Biles along with Bears defensive back Owens’ threw the first pitch before the game. Simone was captured recording Owens from a distance as he threw the ball during the game. 

The couple met in Texas and started dating in March 2020, at the time Biles was a favorite among Texans teams appearing in most of the games and cheering on wearing the jersey. They were also seen together in the 2022 World Series. And eventually moved to the Chicago Bears taking up a $4.5M offer earlier this season. Up next, Simone Biles has three major competitions lined up before she qualifies for a third appearance in the Olympics this year.
