The CEO of SpaceX, Elon Musk, is one of the pioneers when it comes to understanding the intricacies of AI. In the men’s basketball tournament at the Tokyo Olympics, the entrepreneur was shocked to see the capabilities of the AI-powered robot called the CUE5.

CUE5 is 7 feet tall, 220 pounds heavy, and is a sight to behold. Resembling C3PO from the Star Wars franchise, the robot came dressed in black with Tokyo 2020 and the number 25 across his chest. The brainchild of the Toyota project lead is Tomohiro Nomi.

Under his guidance, the CUE series of robots broke world records. In May 2019, CUE3 entered the Guinness Book of World Records for successfully making 2020 free throws in under 6 hours and 35 minutes.

Elon Musk shocked to see the AI’s capabilities

Elon Musk took to Twitter to express his sentiments after witnessing the CUE5’s three-pointer and a half-court shot. The video quickly went viral, gathering over 4.9 million views. “Computers are absurdly more accurate than humans.” stated Musk in his tweet.

While it is a no-brainer that AI is the future, it begs the question if humanity is investing in its own downfall or not. While AI is becoming increasingly more efficient in all spheres of life, Toyota’s newest creation only adds to the concern.

Tesla Boss Elon Musk Gets the Video Game World Buzzing With Yet Another SJM Question

“How long would it take for a human to render even one frame of a modern video game at low res?”, Musk continued, “The computer will do high res at 120 frames per second.” The robot is equipped with many sensors, 3D mapping tech, and algorithms that help it execute effortless shots with high accuracy.

Artificial Intelligence that surpasses humans

According to reports, the robot has been a popular sensation among the public. But its creators claim it has taught them how to build machines that can precisely replicate human movement, which has numerous practical applications. Such robots may eventually be used for labor-intensive occupations that are difficult for humans to perform, like picking crops, making deliveries, and even performing day-to-day tasks at a factory.
