Virginia Beach, a city located on the Atlantic Ocean, is known for its oceanfront resorts and surfing competitions. Interestingly, it is the home of 13-time Grammy Award winner Pharrell Williams. The songwriter, rapper, and record producer has many feathers in his cap and is all set to add one more accolade to his wall of fame. He is now all girded up to establish the roots of a surfing project worth $330 million to transform the city’s future and highlight Atlantic City’s surfing culture.

This 330-million-dollar surfing project is known as The Wave. The main attraction of the project is a state-of-the-art surfing park. The site of the project is at the erstwhile famous convention center known as the Dome.

Pharrell’s iconic Surfing Project

Pharrell always thought highly of his native place and its people’s potential. The potential can transform the future of the city. Pharrell was successful in securing the investment amount for the project. It is a Public-Private partnership business model. The site of the project is at the iconic convention center the Dome, which got dismantled in 1994.

The site was left vacant for 25 years. However, the proposal for the project started to come in 2019, with Pharrell at the forefront. The project is to be built around Surf Park which will include restaurants, retail stores, offices, residential apartments, interactive educational experiences, about 2000 underground parking venues, and a 3,500-seat Live entertainment center.

The surf park will be a Wavegarden Cove surf pool. It is adorned with diamond-shaped wave pools that create waves through multiple modular units placed in series. The residents of the city are excited about the project. They are hopeful of the business avenues it brings along with it and also new visitors from across the states and around the world.

Pharrell’s childhood dream realization

The Atlantic project ‘The Wave’ is the childhood dream of the 13x Grammy winner. He said, ?In a way, this project started when I was a kid?. While going to work with his grandma, who used to work at Oceanfront, they used to pass by the Dome. He was? “intrigued by the futuristic facade of the Dome building”.?The structure originated wild imagination in his mind. Today, he has the opportunity to bring back the reverence of the dome to life.

This project resurrects the wonder which was once displayed by the former structure. The work on the project has commenced with Phase 1 set to open in the summer of 2025, with the vision to change the future of Virginia Beach oceanfront forever. As Pharrell said, “It’s like a wave, a wave that is ready to power the future“. It has all avenues that will attract people to it. The star music producer will not leave any stone unturned for its success.
