Sometimes we hear some stories which immediately win our hearts. Such is the story of “Maddie” the mare, who went through a serious injury. But the mare wasn’t one to back down. Soon she recovered and is now busy winning hearts at various races, jumping, and showing tricks!

Maddie was just 4 years old when she ran through a fence and injured herself severely. This meant an 8-inch piece of wood was stuck on her shoulder. Going through multiple surgeries, Maddie recovered successfully. However, no one thought then that she could go on to become such a champion horse.

“I’d lost my confidence and was on the brink of giving up. But Teza said ‘Come and see me, I’ve got a horse I want you to ride’,” said Cass.

Maddie warmed up to Cass immediately and the two became the best of friends. The mare helped Cassie regain her confidence. And when Teza announced she was to start running competitions at Barleylands, Cass wanted to support her.

“We won the first class — I probably shouldn’t have been jumping as I was still sore, but she flew round as if she’d never been away.”

Cass is able to look at Maddie beyond her injury. Maddie is a talented mare and Cass works well with her.

“I want people to look at Maddie for who she is, not just her damaged parts, as she’s such a lovely mare.”
