Due to heavy snowfall and gale winds, the women’s super-G in St. Moritz was called off. Sofia Goggia of Italy, who won gold for her country yesterday’s St Moritz super-G, had a formidable lead during their first day, the opening day for that matter yesterday. Her silver medal downhill run has certainly put more fuel in the tank, giving her the confidence for day two of the Super-G race and final Audi FIS alpine ski world cup day at Corviglia.

Fan backlash over race cancellations

One person stated, “There was more races during COVID than this season, what the hell is going on?” Another fan questioned, “Will there be another race this season? It’s unbelievable that a little snow falls or the wind blows a little and everyone panics, as if the competitions are organized for little girls. I really hope that soon the TV companies come to the table to put an end to this childish attitude.”

Expressing frustration, another commenter pondered, “Races getting cancelled this season because of winter conditions (snow, flat light, wind etc.)? People can’t ski anymore when it’s proper winter (like now)?”. The sentiment continued with a sarcastic suggestion, “Do races at the north pole there is still enough snow.” Lastly, one disgruntled fan suggested humorously, “Why not just cancel the season and send everybody to Hawaii for some surfing? It’s a winter Sport and yet races aren’t held because of wintery conditions. This never used to be done. It’s pathetic.”
