Alpine skiing legend Mikaela Shiffrin isn’t one to be fazed easily. For the greatest skier of all-time, breaking records isn’t something new, but even she couldn’t stop gushing after Caitlin Clark’s recent stellar feat. The Iowa Hawkeyes basketball player recently became the top scorer in the NCAA Women’s Basketball and the sports world came together to shower Clark with praising words. And now, Shiffrin has joined the bandwagon as she too seems to be in awe of Clark’s monumental achievement.

In her latest Twitter post, the skiing icon doffed her hat at Iowa’s No. 22 basketball player. Congrats, @CaitlinClark22, reads the caption of Shiffrin’s post that’s accompanied by several emojis that reflect the skier’s awestruck feeling of the moment. The Hawkeye athlete stormed into the record books yesterday by becoming the highest-scoring women’s basketball player of all time. With her 3,569 points, Clark has smashed former Washington player Kelsey Plum’s record (3,527). Clark also is the first player in the Iowa program to have scored 49 points in a single game, making it inevitable for her to go down as a Hawkeye legend for years to come.

Clark also contributed to the game further, with 13 assists and 9-18 3-pointers. With 5 rebounds and 5 turnovers, Clark ensured the Hawkeyes didn’t lose their stronghold over the situation as the game progressed. With Shiffrin currently watching the world from the sidelines, such performances probably seem all the more celebration-worthy for the skier.

Only days ago, Shiffrin narrowly escaped a situation that could have well turned out disastrous for her ongoing season. While she didn’t suffer any serious injuries, Mikaela had to take refuge in a “rehab camp” to fully recover from the incident. While Shiffrin blamed the tightly packed schedule of skiers for her faulty step, it looks like it wouldn’t be too long before she resumes her sensational 2024 form.

While Shiffrin marvels at Clark’s achievement, she might need to focus more on her own itinerary for the time being. With another major downhill event this weekend, Mikaela will have to buckle up and be ready for the worst as she seeks to achieve yet another World Cup win.
