Nonetheless, as her years-old driving spree resurfaces, the skiing queen shares an intriguing fact about her fascination with F1.

British F1 prodigy, Lewis Hamilton‘s close-knit friend, Lindsey Vonn, once considered switching sports from downhill ski racing to Formula 1 racing. Nonetheless, her compulsion toward the sport even made her sit behind the steering wheel in 2016 at the Red Bull Ring. After testing the asphalt at the Red Bull arena, she expressed her desire of becoming an F1 driver. Now, 7 years after her commendable feat, the skier reveals an interesting verity about herself.

Recently, sports advocate, Matt Pozay, took to her Twitter handle to share the stills of Vonn from the 2016 Red Bull races. Captioning the post, Pozay wrote, “@lindseyvonn knows a thing or 2 about going fast, all time greatest downhill skier and Red Bull got her to drive around the A1 Ring a few years ago”. The tweet caught the skier’s attention, and Vonn took a moment to acknowledge her fan’s post.

Conceding with Pozay, the 38-year-old penned, “You got that right, I love going fast! Had so much fun driving!”. Interestingly, along with the Red Bull ring, Vonn also clinched the chance to accelerate Formula Renault 2.0 and Formula Renault 3.5 at some of the most renowned race tracks.

More so, her fascination for chasing thrill almost made her mind to choose F1 as her line of vocation. However, she turned down the opportunity of becoming one of the greatest race car drivers in the world.

Why Lindsey Vonn declined an offer from F1?

In 2020, the skier appeared in an interview with Graham Bensinger, where she profoundly opened up about her penchant for F1. Explaining her reasons for turning down the opportunity, Vonn stated, I was thinking about switching and going on to the Formula 1. Like actually trying to be a racer, a driver. But I couldn’t because they wanted me to commit”.

She further added, “It was three years, and they were like you can’t get pregnant, you can’t do anything and I am like I don’t know if I really wanna do that. But that something definitely gonna be like very exciting for me. Like personally”. Though she never chose Formula 1 as her prime profession, she still likes to pursue her interest in F1 once in a while. She indeed loves the thrill that comes with adrenaline-rush-inducing sports such as Formula 1 and alpine skiing, don’t you agree?
