Mikaela Shiffrin is knocking on the doors of history. After battling injuries from a crash earlier this year, Shiffrin stands just one spot shy of the coveted 100 World Cup wins milestone. The 29-year-old alpine skiing legend earned her 99th win at Gurgl, Austria, beating rising stars Lara Colturi & Camille Rast. However, there’s one thing she regrets about her post-victor interview.
When asked how she plans to celebrate her win, the slalom specialist spoke about her eagerness to get to the airport. However, the 62-time slalom winner left out one crucial detail she later revealed on social media. “I answered a Q after the race today about celebration and my answer was so boring…” Shiffrin posted on X.
“Like ‘blah blah, don’t have time, blah, strength, blahhhh driving to the airport…'” explained Mikaela Shiffrin. However, the Taylor Swift fan didn’t say how she planned to spice up that three-hour drive. “Should have said how I (was) actually planning to have a 3h @taylorswift13 concert the whole drive,” the alpine skiing icon revealed in her X-post.

However, it’s no surprise that music was a big part of Shiffrin’s celebration. Besides shredding down the slopes and making alpine skiing history, the Olympic gold medalist also excels in other hobbies. And while you’d think the champion doesn’t find much time for hobbies amidst her busy schedule, Shiffrin can sing and play the guitar.
In fact, Mikaela Shiffrin dedicated a heartfelt performance to her boyfriend Aleksander Aamodt Kilde ahead of her 98th World Cup race victory last week in Levi. The 29-year-old sang a heartfelt rendition of The Devil’s Tears by folk/indie pop artists Angus & Julia Stone. However, the Taylor Swift fan’s celebration was well deserved for more than one reason.
Mikaela Shiffrin’s 99th victory was quite the challenge
Besides revealing her plans to vibe to Taylor Swift songs, the champion skier revealed she felt the pressure during the race. “I really was nervous on the top,” the five-time overall title winner told Eurosport after her victory. Despite her immense experience on the slopes, every cheer from the crowd for opponents from the finish line boosted her anxiety.
“I could hear all the other women going down and their teams cheering and that always means they have really good runs,” explained Mikaela Shiffrin. “I was like: I don´t think it´s happening today. Push! Push!” revealed the Olympian. However, even the conditions seemed to work against the alpine skiing legend, earning her 99th World Cup race title.

“The second run was a big mental challenge because I was not sure how it would feel with the surface, and it was getting darker,” Shiffrin told AFP. However, despite the challenges, the icon from America posted a total time of 1 min 40.22 sec, which was 0.55 sec ahead of the 18-year-old Albanian phenom Lara Colturi.
With his victory, Mikaela Shiffrin has set up a date with destiny in her backyard. Now, the skiing legend will attempt to earn her historic 100th World Cup race at Killington, Vermont. Coincidentally, the Colorado native spent a lot of time learning at Burke Mountain Academy near Killington. So reaching the 100 victories mark at Killington would be truly poetic for Shiffrin.
