“Panic Attack”: Mikaela Shiffrin’s Boyfriend Aleksander Kilde Gives Much Awaited Update on Gut-Wrenching Injury

Mikaela Shiffrin’s Boyfriend, Norwegian alpine ski racer Aleksander Aamodt Kilde faced a serious accident during the Lauberhorn races in Wengen on January 14th, resulting in his airlift removal. Since then, he has been consistently updating on his health. However,  Mikaela Shiffrin was there to take care of him during this challenging time. As Aleksander mentioned , “I’m here (and being taken care of by the one and only),” referring to Mikaela, in his post-accident. However, it seems fate had other plans for Mikaela too.

In the women’s downhill event in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, on Friday, Mikaela Shiffrin crashed. However, she is currently being evaluated for a left leg injury. On the brighter side, Aleksander Kilde seems to be doing well. He recently shared on Instagram from his hospital bed, offering valuable insights into his recovery journey.

From peaks of pain to victory in ‘Baby Steps’

Recently, alpine ski racer Aleksander Kilde shared a detailed update on his recovery after a severe injury. In the initial week, he navigated the aftermath of shoulder surgery, coping with intense pain, and experiencing an anxiety/panic attack from medication. In his words, “I’ve ever felt following the surgery…and then had an anxiety/panic attack from the medications for that pain.”

However, week 2 marked milestones like sitting upright for over 10 minutes, independent trips to the bathroom, and venturing outside after two weeks. Despite preparing for seven weeks in a wheelchair, Kilde found relief with a different pain medication and celebrated the simple joy of showering. As he moved into Week 3, being home in Innsbruck, Kilde expressed gratitude for the support and acknowledged the significance of “baby steps” in the challenging situation, finding energy and even a bit of enjoyment amid the recovery journey.

Continuing his reflection, Kilde emphasized the difficulty of the situation. He contrasted it with past injuries. Expressing gratitude for the encouraging support, he acknowledged the mental and physical challenges. He found solace in the progress. Even though he missed participating in races, he congratulated the podium finishers at Kitzbuhel and Garmisch. However, it seems that Mikaela Shiffrin is also on the path to recovery.

Mikaela Shiffrin’s grueling crash

Two days back Mikaela Shiffrin while racing during FIS Alpine world cup, lost control and collided with the safety nets. however she was taken by ambulance to the clinic in Cortina and it was seen that she has minor leg injury. Initial analysis shows the ACL and PCL seem intact. Shiffrin expressed gratitude for the support and congratulated her teammates.

However, Mikaela Shiffrin announced that she would not be skiing for the rest of the weekend and would miss the upcoming event in Kronplatz. Her future participation remained uncertain as she emphasized the need for time to assess her condition.
