Self-proclaimed adrenaline junkie Lindsey Vonn is a poster child for athleticism. Her legacy on the slopes as an alpine skier is unforgettable. With 84 World Cup wins and four overall titles, Vonn fought through countless injuries and cemented herself in the sport’s history as one of the best.

But that’s not all. The Olympic champion may have retired now, but her workout routine stays fitting for a hardcore athlete. And thanks to her love for fitness, we saw an unlikely friendship between her and former professional wrestler Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson bloom.

It’s not uncommon for athletes to mingle across sports. But the way Lindsey Vonn met ‘The Rock’ is an incredible story. Talking to Footwear News, the skiing icon detailed how the unlikely pair formed a beautiful friendship.

“We actually started our friendship because he was on the cover of Sports Illustrated and they asked him ‘Could anyone keep up with you in the gym?’ And he said the only person would be me — and I was like, whoa, whoa, I’m not sure that’s accurate,” Vonn said.

And a couple of phone calls later, Vonn had gained a new friend and mentor. “I’ve learned a lot from him. He’s always been someone I can call anytime, which is pretty outstanding. And he’s like everything that he appears to be on TV and in movies. He’s just the nicest human,” she added.

The two have gone head-to-head in the gym. The ‘Fast & Furious’ star posted a clip of them working out together at his fully equipped home gym. But it wasn’t her first visit to the “Iron Paradise”. She posted a video on Facebook in 2020, joining Johnson for a workout alongside Jersey Devil P.K. Subban, writing, “Name a better workout partner… I’ll wait.”

Vonn worked with Johnson for Project Rock

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson partnered up with Under Armour to release a line of athletic wear options for women, kids, and men. He announced this long-term partnership through Instagram in 2015 and since then has released several collections through the years.

When Johnson and Under Armour began working on Project Rock, Vonn said she called him up. “I was like, ‘If you’re going to do women’s, we should do it together.’ And he said, ‘You know what? That’s a great idea. And within like a month, we were on board.’”

He welcomed her to the Project Rock family as its first global ambassador. It’s clear that the respect and appreciation between the two go both ways. When the Olympian released her memoir ‘Rise’, Johnson offered his bit of praise, saying, “The Lindsey I’ve become close with is a good, solid human being with a heart that knows no boundaries.”
