After Unforeseen Fatal Injury, Olympics World Receives Latest Update on 2023 Asian Games Official

The Asian Games that marked its beginning on the 23rd of September has proceeded well into the 9th day of its schedule. The contest hosted in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China has welcomed 45 nations across the continent. But as countries continue to perform well and exceptionally, aiming for Olympic qualification, the world of sports stands no stranger to accidents.

Spread across a total of 15 days, the Asian Games has set a steady pace with participants contending for the ultimate title as well as Paris 2024. As performers maintained heads steady in the direction of the same, the hammer throw field stood witness to an unfortunate occurrence bound to its fate. However, the trailing reports yielded a sigh of relief.

On Saturday, the 30th, Hammer throw contender, Ali Zankawi. entered the nets to execute his performance. However, as he threw the hammer to abort his performance, the equipment bounced off the ground to hit an official. The staff on the ground was quick to lead the injured to the care; following which, the news of the condition surfaced among the community.

Following up on the injury, the Throwers Universe on X posted an update for those eager. The page shared a video of the accident and captioned, “2023 Asian Games official in stable condition after being accidentally hit with a hammer, suffers a broken leg.” The update was a sigh of relief to the enthusiasts as the metal ball weighed a good 7kgs.

The accident received an immediate response from the Kuwait athlete as he headed toward the official. Zankawi, who is a 2006, silver medalist also went ahead to check up on the injured after the event.

Zankawi expresses concern

The 62-year-old official named Huang Qinghua was placed outside the nets when Zankawi took the ground. When the player let go of the hammer, it hit through the protective net, falling to injure Huang. Following the quick pass of the moment, Huang received an emergency treatment and was then rushed to the hospital. Trailing right along, Zankawi knew not to leave the matter unattended.

According to The Sportstar, the athlete tended to Huang in the hospital and apologized. “I raised my head and discovered that the hammer had bounced from the ground to the official’s leg, so I quickly ran to him and tried to help him, especially since he was in a state of shock and writhing in pain…Then I tied it tightly to stop the bleeding until the ambulance arrived” Zankawi remarked following the accident.

As per the reports, Huang suffered a fractured tibiofibular joint, but officials informed the condition remained stable. However, the two resolved the matter and were also photographed together. As for the results of Zankawi, the player was placed 8th shook-up by the accident.
