In men’s sprinting, Usain Bolt is the king, as he holds the world’s fastest time. However, having retired from the track and field in 2017, he is not the world’s fastest man in 2021. American sprinting star Trayvon Bromell has emerged as the new contender for that title.

Notably, Bromell established the world’s fastest time twice in 2021, breaking his own record. Trayvon clocked the world’s fastest time in 100m during the Kip Keino Classic at 9.76 seconds.

Bromell started his sprinting career in 2013 during high school. However, he made headlines when he clinched the USA Olympic trials for the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Notably, it was then when he clocked the world’s fastest time in 2021. Bromell had defeated the now Olympic champion Fred Kerly, by recording the terrific time of 9.77 seconds.

Hence, expectations were high from Bromell at the Tokyo Olympics 2021. However, things went down south, as he could not even reach the 100m finals at the mega games. Notably, Trayvon came home empty-handed but did not lose hope.

Similar to Tokyo, things still did not go as planned for Bromell, as he couldn’t clinch the race at the 2021 Diamond League meet. Albeit, he kept going, and no one could defeat his 2021 world record until he himself broke it.

At his last race of the 2021 season, the Kip Keino Classic, Trayvon finally tasted success. Remarkably, he broke his own 2021 world record of 9.77 seconds by clocking a time of 9.76 seconds. He also defeated American sprinting legend, and Usain Bolt’s greatest rival, Justin Gatlin, to clinch the race.

Bromell is the sixth fastest man in the world

The Olympic sprinting legend Usain Bolt has dominated the world record in 100m and 200m races for decades now. Bolt’s 100m record stands at 9.58 seconds, and no one is even close to reaching it. Notably, American sprinter Trayvon Bromell is in the sixth position with 9.76 seconds. Interestingly, he shares the spot with fellow American, Christian Coleman.

Between Bolt and Bromell are other significant names in the sport. On the second position are USA’s Tyson Gay and Jamaica’s Yohan Blake with 9.69 seconds. Following them in the fourth position is once again Jamaica’s Asafa Powell with 9.72 seconds, and in fifth is the USA’s Justin Gatlin with 9.74 seconds.
