Florence Griffith Joyner is one of the most iconic female sprinters in history. In the US trials for the 1988 Olympics, FloJo set a record that hasn’t been touched by anyone yet. She performed a record-breaking 100m in only 10.49 seconds. However, Trinidadian athlete Ato Boldon says that Elaine Thomspon Herah is very much capable of breaking the untouched record, but maybe not Sha’Carri Richardson.

Boldon is a 4-time Olympic medal winner. Additionally, he is a Commonwealth Games record holder. Boldon believes that Thomson Herah has the potential to break FloJo’s record. However, when it comes to Sha’Carri Richardson, he is not so sure.

In the quarterfinals of the US Trials, Flojo gave the record-breaking time of 10.49 seconds. Nobody has even come close to that number yet. However, Ato Boldon believes Herah is at her peak form now and capable of achieving that.

However, when it comes to American athlete Sha’Carri, Boldon has some doubts regarding her form.

“I don’t think Sha’Carri Richardson can think about 10.49 until she fixes the first half of her race,” said Boldon. Although it is true that Richardson has a superb finish, Bolton thinks that she needs to focus more on the first part.

“We know how well she finishes but the first 30/40m have to be a lot more solid for her to get into this conversation.”

Notably, Richardson’s personal best stands at 10.72 seconds. Before the Tokyo Olympics, she recorded the 6th fastest time in 100 meters. On the other hand, Elaine Thompson Herah’s personal best is 10.54 seconds.
