Usain Bolt stands proudly on the throne of the world’s fastest man for more than a decade now. No human alive has surpassed Bolt’s astonishing records in the 100m and 200m races that he ran in 2009. But what about dogs? Interestingly, while no human can achieve this feat, dogs can.

Eight times Olympic gold medalist, Usain Bolt runs 27.78 mph, which is five times more than what a normal human can. However, a few dog breeds like German shepherd, Greyhound, and the Afghan hound can beat Bolt in a race.

The Olympic legend Usain Bolt is known for his lightning speed on the field. Interestingly, Bolt has even tried running against a metro and defeated the technology by winning the race. But some dogs specifically trained in the military or for hunting can defeat Usain Bolt by a good margin.

German Shepherds commonly found in homes as pets or in the military can run 30mph. They have a muscular body and are super energetic, and can even run the same speed as an ostrich. A shocking breed on the list is the Jack Russell Terrier, who is small, yet can run at a top speed of 38 mph. Jack Russell Terrier is trained to chase foxes. No wonder they can run so fast.

One of the fastest dogs around is the Grey Hound, with a speed of 45mph. Interestingly, Grey Hounds are the favorites to compete in a dog race. They can even defeat a cheetah. Although a cheetah has a top speed of 70mph, it can only hold it for 30 seconds. Beyond that, a greyhound can outrun the cheetah.
