The world hails Serena Williams as one of the greatest players to ever wield a racquet. While nobody compares to her level of skill, another American legend recently equated US Open Champion Coco Gauff to Williams.

The 19-year-old American tennis sensation achieved a near-impossible feat as she conquered the second seed of the tournament. Retired track and field queen Allyson Felix compared this heroic achievement and on-court tenacity with that of Serena Williams.

Serena Williams graced the world of tennis from October 1995 to September 2022. Several great players see Williams as an idol and yearn to play against her. One of those individuals is the 19-year-old Coco Gauff who recently triumphed over Aryna Sabalenka to win her first Grand Slam. The US Open champ paid her respect to the tennis GOAT in an interview before the finals. She said that she looked up to Serena Williams. Gauff also mentioned that she?s just happy being a??product of her legacy??and won?t ever compare herself with Williams.

While a comparison with a GOAT is off-limits for a youngster, the other GOATS are completely licensed to do so. In fact, Allyson Felix did just that as she uploaded a story and congratulated Coco Gauff for the win. Felix wrote,??A product of @serenawilliams legacy. That part! The ultimate compliment and respect. Absolutely love to see it.??Felix shared another story where she applauded Coco Gauff with several emojis. The young American made everyone proud with her first grand slam victory and added her sixth title to her shelf. While Coco Gauff won big and won in style, she shared one big regret before heading into the finals.

Coco Gauff mentions her greatest regret before finals

Serena Williams always seemed to remain at the top of the food chain throughout her career. Williams bagged the World Number One spot amongst all tennis geniuses for 319 weeks in her career. She also retained her top position by the year-end up to five times. In fact, the only parameter she fell short of was winning the highest number of grand slams. Williams stands at number two with 23 grand slam wins after Margaret Court (24). While Coco Gauff used to be delighted by her idol?s stellar performances, she also harbored a great regret.?

Before beating Aryna Sabalenka to claim the title win, Gauff said,??The only regret that I’ll have for the rest of my life is not being able to play her (Williams).??Despite nesting this regret within her, the young tennis star didn?t hesitate to beat her Belarusian opponent. Coco Gauff may not be able to face the numero uno GOAT. However, she did achieve a satisfying win against the current World Number One player, and caused a major upset. The world will look forward to seeing Gauff carry the will of Williams and attain eternal greatness in the future.
