Even after 56 days of the lockout, there is no agreement between the owners and MLB Players’ Association. And the games of the upcoming season are most likely to be affected. Major League Baseball team owners on December 2 last year imposed a lockout after the Collective Bargaining Agreement between players and the owners expired.

However, this week, both sides have met a couple of times for a new agreement and if reports are true, then these talks were positive for both sides. But even they agree to a new CBA deal, still MLB will have to compromise with the spring training and several games too.

Notably, these two meetings are a positive sign for the league, but both sides still have not discussed many key issues. As per ESPN’s Jeff Passan, MLB accepted to establish a pool of money for pre-arbitration players. But at a very lower amount than what the players’ association asked for.

According to Jeff Passan, “MLB is offering only $10 million in the pool while the players want $105 million. This money will be distributed to the top 30 pre-arbitration players based on Wins Above Replacement (WAR) and awards, such as the MVP and Cy Young Award.”

The league also offered to increase the minimum salary, but at a far below value what the union has asked for. The MLB Players’ Association wants to grant a minimum salary of $775,000 for the first-year players. But the league is offering to increase it to just $615,000 from $600,000.
Lockout finally ending?
The recent meetings are definitely a positive sign for the upcoming season. And as per Alex Contreras, an insider of Merlins, the new deal between the players’ union and the owners is as good as done. And we might see the games from next month.
