Yankees and Mets have always been arch-rivals, sharing the same city. And, it seems like Mets’ new manager Buck Showalter is here to give the Yankees a tough competition at every stage. 

New York Yankees assistant hitting coach joins Mets 

Last month New York Yankees made a huge managerial shift in their coaching staff. Notably, they hired their former player, Eric Chavez, as their assistant hitting coach. The team was indeed thrilled by this addition. In fact, manager Aaron Boone had made a huge claim hailing Eric.

Boone said, I view him as a little bit of a Swiss Army knife where he’s going to have a lot of different responsibilities.” 

However, according to reports, Yankees’ ‘Swiss Army Knife’ has ditched them to join rivals, the New York Mets. Eric would be the hitting coach for the Mets in the upcoming season.

Eric Chavez has worked with other teams in the past

During his career, Eric Chavez was an incredible player himself. In his outings with Oakland Athletics, New York Yankees, and Arizona Diamondbacks, Eric had clinched six gold gloves and one silver slugger award.

However, he bid goodbye to his jersey in 2014, calling quits on his playing career. Albeit, he did not leave the baseball world, choosing another path to remain connected. In 2015, Chavez became the special assistant to Yankees GM Brian Cashman. Later on, he also worked as the special assistant for Los Angeles Angels manager. Now, he will play the role of hitting coach for the New York Mets.

As the Mets have stolen the Yankees’ assistant hitting coach, it will be interesting to see some free agency war between the Mets and the Yankees post-lockout.
